Make the Most of Sunday Brunch

New Yorkers love their brunch, especially on Sundays. There’s nothing better after a late Saturday night than a lazy Sunday morning and leisurely afternoon brunch. With all the choices in the city there’s something to satisfy all moods, whether you’re looking for an afternoon of boozing, more than the typical eggs benedict, or an ideal outdoor spot to enjoy a sunny day. These are my top picks for making the most of your Sunday brunch.
Best brunch in NYC

Best Overall
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum from greasy spoon, Five Points brings sophistication to the brunch experience without being at all stuffy or overpriced. The interior is spacious and relaxed with an earthy zen feel. The menu follows suit with eclectic choices made from organic and natural ingredients.

You can’t go wrong with anything, but some notables include Churros and hot chocolate, organic egg dishes prepared in a wood oven, lemon ricotta pancakes and beer battered fish tacos. Booze selections are equally enticing: blood orange martini, rhubarb daiquiri, tangerine margarita. Service is friendly, it’s great for groups and they take reservations. Location: Greenwich Village, 31 Great Jones Street, between Lafayette and Bowery

All You Can Drink
Head to The Sunburnt Cow in the East Village if you’re looking for an afternoon of boozing. This Aussie themed no frills bar turns endless drink brunch on the weekends for just $18. Choose one menu item and imbibe endlessly of their Moo Mary’s Moomosa’s, Screw Drivers, Greyhounds or Fosters. Service is friendly, they’re quick to pour and you can linger. The menu is short but includes brunch classics with surprising Aussie twists like the banana pikelet, the Australian version of a pancake. It definitely gets crowded (they take reservations for 6 or more) and it’s cash only. Location: 137 Avenue C, between 8th and 9th

Outdoor
A West Village hot spot, Extra Virgin draws crowds for good reason: inspired, mouth watering mediterranean dishes where flavored olive oils from around the world take center stage. Brunch specialties include Moroccan Scramble with Merguez sausage and chick peas, Roasted Artichoke Provencal with pancetta, and the Gorgonzola Fondue Fries. To round it out add a Bellini, Mimosa or Bloody. Grab a table outside on the patio in front of the restaurant if you can for great West Village neighborhood people watching. No reservations. Location: 259 West 4th Street, between Charles and Perry
