August was another great month in travel blogging with so many interesting (and scary) stories and some wonderful photo essays. The August Blog Scene highlights some of my favorite posts from the month. Just in case you missed them the first time around, here’s your chance to catch up on some great reads, enjoy!
Andy Hayes shares his love for scary places and haunted houses in this Friday the 13th piece about The Scariest Places on Earth and as he cautions, be prepared to be terrified!
A Stranger in Need: The Traveler’s Dilemma is yet another thought provoking post by 501 Places. Perfectly timed for the Traveler’s Night In Pay It Forward topic, Andy prompts you to reconsider your philosophy for helping others with his question: “After all, if we look at ourselves traveling through another land, aren’t we the strangers often looking for help from others?”
This photo essay through Banff National Park by spunkygirllogue showcases Pam’s amazing photography and makes it easy to appreciate her love for Canada’s first National Park.
velvetscape is well traveled and well dined and Keith combines both in this off-the-beaten path culinary experience in a way that only he can: exotic location and cuisine accompanied by fabulous photography as always. Learn (and dream) about how authentic Malaysian dishes are made from Bayan Indah, a lush villa a short distance outside Kuala Lumpur.

Thank-you for including me, Laurie! I love that you included Andy’s post about the Scariest Places on Earth!
My pleasure, I really enjoyed your post, actually the entire series! I know, Andy’s stuff is great but particularly the Friday the 13th piece. He really must be a junkie to know all those places, I was shocked by how many were on the list!
I find irony in the fact that I’m writing you from a haunted castle!
Glad you enjoyed it. Wouldn’t say I’m a junkie, just that I find the world very interesting!
Andy,
That’s so funny! And it’s obvious you find the world interesting from your great articles!
Have fun at the castle and let us know if you have any haunted encounters!
Cheers, Laurie
